A Bangladeshi national, Arup Bakshi, was apprehended by the police in Lucknow’s Bakshi Ka Talab (BKT) area for allegedly residing illegally in India for around 14 years. He entered the country in 2012 through Nepal and Lakhimpur Kheri, acquiring fake Indian identity documents to prolong his stay. Following a confidential complaint, Sub-Inspector Yogendra Kumar filed a case against Bakshi, leading to his arrest and the recovery of various documents, including an Aadhaar card.
Arup Bakshi initially stayed with a resident of Sitapur district, Dr. Swapna Biswas, where he obtained forged documents like a voter ID card, driving license, Aadhaar card, and even an Indian passport. Subsequently, he became a tenant at advocate Mrityunjay Singh Chauhan’s residence in the BKT area and purchased land in Mamapur Bana village using fraudulent means. Moreover, Bakshi ran a clinic without a valid medical degree, allegedly extorting money from individuals for treatment.
Upon interrogation, Bakshi admitted to acquiring the forged documents while in Sitapur. The police are now compiling a list of his associates and contacts in Sitapur and Lucknow for further investigation into his activities.
