Mumbai Police apprehended a 36-year-old Bangladeshi man, Babu Biswas, at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport for allegedly using a fake Indian passport. Biswas, who entered India illegally in 2016 through West Bengal, managed to acquire Indian identity documents like Aadhaar and PAN cards before obtaining the passport in 2019. He traveled to the Maldives and Colombo without detection.
Authorities are now focused on uncovering the individuals who assisted Biswas in obtaining the forged documents and passport. Upon his arrival from Colombo, immigration officials grew suspicious due to his accent resembling that of Bangladesh. Biswas, during questioning, admitted to his illegal entry and the process of acquiring Indian documents with the help of a local resident in West Bengal.
The investigation revealed that Biswas hailed from Faridpur, Bangladesh, confirmed when he contacted his wife for identity documents. The Mumbai Crime Branch has also initiated deportation proceedings for 53 other illegal Bangladeshi nationals recently apprehended in the city. Police continue to probe the network involved in facilitating Biswas’s illegal activities.
