Security agencies in Bihar’s East Champaran district, along with the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), apprehended a Bangladeshi national close to the India-Nepal border. The arrest took place near the Maitri Bridge at Custom Chowk under the Haraiya police station area, where the individual was allegedly trying to enter Nepal. The suspect, identified as Md. Shyam Hussain, was unable to provide valid documents confirming his legal stay in India.
Preliminary investigations suggest that Hussain had been residing illegally in India for an extended period and was attempting to exit the country through Nepal. Authorities are currently interrogating him to ascertain his entry route into India and whether he had assistance from an organized network or planned to travel to another country through Nepal. The police are also verifying his contacts, activities, and movements during his stay in India.
The arrested Bangladeshi national is facing legal action under the applicable provisions for foreign nationals. The East Champaran Police spokesperson mentioned that a thorough investigation into his documents, identity, and duration of stay in India is ongoing. Following the inquiry, he will be presented in court, and further legal procedures will be initiated as per the law.
The Haraiya and Raxaul sectors of East Champaran are under strict surveillance due to their proximity to the India-Nepal border. Authorities conduct joint operations to curb illegal border crossings, human trafficking, and the use of counterfeit documents. Surveillance in the border region will be sustained, and stringent legal measures will be taken against individuals found residing unlawfully in India or attempting unauthorized border crossings.
