With less than a month left until the elections in Bangladesh, significant changes are underway in the political arena. The Jamaat-e-Islami faces disruptions as its allies depart, while attempts are made to mend ties with the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), expected to secure a comfortable victory.
The Jamaat and the BNP, previously in an alliance, recently decided to contest independently, further complicating the political scenario. Additionally, the Jamaat suffered another setback as its ally, the Islami Andolan Bangladesh (IAB), also withdrew its support.
The IAB expressed disappointment over the Jamaat’s intention to govern under existing laws if elected, contrasting with their expectation of Sharia law implementation under the Jamaat alliance.
