A banner backing Shankaracharya Swami Avimukteshwaranand was hung outside the Samajwadi Party headquarters in Lucknow. The banner, put up by Ashutosh Singh, a former state secretary of the party’s youth wing, reads “Shankaracharya ka apmaan, nahi sahega Hindustan.”
The banner’s placement follows a controversy involving Shankaracharya Swami Avimukteshwaranand, who was reportedly prevented by the Magh Mela administration from proceeding to the Sangam Nose in Prayagraj. This incident has sparked strong political and religious responses.
Jagadguru Rambhadracharya criticized the seer for attempting to reach the Ganga on a chariot, stating that the administration did not act unjustly. Congress leader Udit Raj also condemned the treatment of Swami Avimukteshwaranand, accusing the government of targeting dissenting voices.
Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati has strongly responded to a legal notice from the Magh Mela administration questioning his use of the title ‘Shankaracharya’. He warned of legal action if the notice is not withdrawn, citing contempt of court and defamation.
