The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary, Devajit Saikia, mentioned that two upcoming league stage matches of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026 might be conducted without spectators due to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) elections. This decision is due to the challenge of managing crowds on January 14 and 15, the polling days. The matches in question are Delhi Capitals vs UP Warriorz and Mumbai Indians vs UP Warriorz.

While the DY Patil stadium may not allow spectators for these matches, the Gujarat Giants vs Royal Challengers Bengaluru game on January 16 is expected to welcome fans. Saikia clarified that the election’s counting day on the 16th is not a concern. The decision on crowd attendance for the WPL matches is still under discussion and will be publicly announced once finalized.

The Women’s Premier League fixture list was released on November 29 last year, and the election schedule was made public on December 15. Organizers were promptly informed about the election dates. Despite the strong attendance in previous matches, tickets for games on January 14, 15, and 16 are currently unavailable on the official WPL ticketing portal. Fans await further details from the BCCI regarding ticket sales and event arrangements.
