The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President, Mithun Manhas, praised India’s significant win in the first women’s Test at Lord’s. India triumphed by 270 runs over England, with a stellar performance led by Harmanpreet Kaur. The victory was celebrated by Manhas on social media, lauding the team’s remarkable achievement.
India showcased a dominant display in all aspects of the game, securing a convincing win at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground. The team bowled out England for 186 while defending a substantial target of 457 runs. Notably, off-spinner Sneh Rana excelled with figures of 4-42, and Deepti Sharma contributed with 2-36 as England faltered on the fourth day.
Facing a challenging situation at 130/6, England’s hopes relied on Amy Jones, who had scored a half-century. However, Sneh Rana dismissed her early on, followed by Deepti Sharma claiming two crucial wickets. The match concluded with Sneh Rana dismissing Sophie Ecclestone, who had earlier achieved her maiden Test half-century.
This victory marked India’s seventh win in the last 11 women’s Tests, maintaining their unbeaten record in Test cricket on English soil. The foundation for this historic win was laid by India’s strong batting performance throughout the match. Noteworthy contributions came from Smriti Mandhana, Yastika Bhatia, Richa Ghosh, and Kranti Gaud, who all played pivotal roles in the team’s success.
The memorable victory was witnessed by cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, who shared words of encouragement with the Indian team before the match. Accompanied by ICC Chairman Jay Shah and other dignitaries, India ensured that the first women’s Test at Lord’s would be etched in cricketing history for years to come.
