Himanta Biswa Sarma took the oath as Chief Minister for the second consecutive term following the Bharatiya Janata Party’s success in the state Assembly elections. With the BJP securing 82 out of 126 seats and its allies also performing well, the NDA coalition reached a total of 102 seats. Sarma’s victory in the Jalukbari constituency over the Congress nominee by a significant margin was a key highlight of the elections.
The BJP’s triumph in the elections, along with its allies Bodoland Peoples Front and Asom Gana Parishad, marked a significant political development in Assam. The high voter turnout of 85.9% in the elections, surpassing the previous year’s figures, underscored the strong democratic participation and engagement in the state.
