BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia has been appointed as the Chair of the newly-formed Governance Review Committee of the International Cricket Council (ICC). This decision was made during the recent ICC Annual Conference in Edinburgh. The Governance Review Committee will also include Dr. Mohammed Moosajee from Cricket South Africa and Dr. Ros Rivaz, an ICC Independent Director.
In another development, the ICC has set up a Franchise Leagues Committee, with Tamim Iqbal, the President of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and former men’s captain, as its chairperson. The committee will also feature members like Saikia, Dr. Rudie van Vuuren from Cricket Namibia, Richard Gould from England and Wales Cricket Board, and Todd Greenberg from Cricket Australia.
Moreover, the ICC welcomed Mauritius as its 111th member during the conference, emphasizing the organization’s commitment to expanding cricket globally. This move is seen as a significant step in enhancing cricket’s presence in emerging markets and fostering greater participation and development worldwide.
The ICC Board approved a loan of USD 12.82 million to Cricket West Indies (CWI) to support the operations of the member board. Additionally, the Board addressed various administrative and compliance issues concerning different member nations. Notably, Sri Lanka Cricket was urged to conduct elections promptly, as the ICC emphasized the importance of adhering to governance protocols. The ICC also outlined specific conditions for the reinstatement of Cricket Canada’s ICC Membership, following the suspension of the organization due to governance and financial irregularities.
