Masood Uz Zafar Amini, the coach of Rinku Singh, supported the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) move to release Mustafizur Rahman from the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL). Kolkata Knight Riders let go of Rahman following BCCI’s directive due to recent controversies, drawing criticism from various quarters.
Amini emphasized that Rahman’s identity as a cricketer should take precedence over his religious background. He stressed that players should not be dragged into political issues and that decisions regarding players should not be influenced by external factors. Amini highlighted the importance of separating sports from other aspects of life.
Rahman, who was bought by KKR for Rs 9.2 crore in the 2025 IPL auction, has a track record with various IPL teams, including Sunrisers Hyderabad, Mumbai Indians, Rajasthan Royals, Delhi Capitals, and Chennai Super Kings. He has been a consistent performer in the league, securing 65 wickets in 60 matches since his IPL debut in 2016.
