Bengali actress Swastika Mukherjee was questioned at Gariahat Police Station regarding an FIR filed against her and actor Parambrata Chatterjee for allegedly inciting post-poll violence through a social media post in 2021. The complaint, made by lawyer Joydeep Sen, urged a prompt investigation into the actors’ actions. Following the complaint, an FIR was lodged, and Swastika Mukherjee was summoned to appear before investigators within a week.
Swastika Mukherjee complied with the summons and presented herself at Gariahat Police Station on a Saturday afternoon. She underwent questioning for nearly an hour concerning her alleged endorsement of Parambrata’s social media post before departing from the police station. Despite journalists being present outside, the actress did not engage with them and left in her car without making any statements.
In 2021, Joydeep Sen had previously filed a complaint against Parambrata for a Twitter post, now identified as X. The complainant asserted that Parambrata’s post, made after the Assembly election results, contained provocative political remarks. Swastika had purportedly supported the post by commenting on it. The complainant alleged that such actions by the actors had contributed to political unrest, citing incidents of violence and attacks on BJP workers in various West Bengal districts during that time.
