Berhampur Police made a significant breakthrough by apprehending nine individuals, including the suspected mastermind, in connection with the abduction and killing of a businessman in Gopalpur. The case unfolded when the victim’s wife reported to the police that her 47-year-old husband, Sudhir Kumar Patra, had been taken by unknown persons on April 15, demanding a ransom of Rs 2 crore and threatening his life.
Ganjam Superintendent of Police, Suvendu Kumar Patra, revealed that initial investigations pointed towards the involvement of the victim’s family in the crime. Subsequently, it was confirmed that the victim’s niece, Nibedita Patra, played a significant role in the incident. The sequence of events indicated a family dispute over financial matters following the death of the victim’s brother, escalating tensions between the two families.
Sudhir, a successful real estate entrepreneur, faced abduction orchestrated by Nibedita, her brother Tushar Kumar Patro, and their accomplice Kalu Charan Pradhan. The plan involved kidnapping Sudhir, inflicting harm, and demanding ransom. The victim was subjected to assault and threats, leading to his unfortunate demise, with his body later discovered in a remote location.
All nine suspects, including Nibedita Patra, Tushar Kumar Patro, Kalu Charan Pradhan, and others, have been apprehended by the police. Additionally, authorities have seized incriminating evidence such as vehicles, mobile phones, and a firearm linked to the crime.
