Bhai Mani Singh was recognized on Sunday as a significant martyr and a key figure in medieval Sikh textual studies, credited with consolidating the scattered literature of the faith. The ‘Bhai Mani Singh Memorial Lecture’ in New Delhi featured distinguished speakers from spiritual, legal, and educational backgrounds, including the esteemed ‘Nirmala Sant’ Dr. Rameshwaranand and Bhai Ranjit Singh, Chief Granthi of Gurudwara Sri Bangla Sahib. The event, hosted by the Bhai Mani Singh Research and Study Institute Trust, also marked the launch of a special booklet titled “Bhai Mani Singh Ji, the Great Martyr of Sikh History.”
Key figures at the lecture included Professor Jagbir Singh from the Central University of Punjab, Bathinda; Kuldeep Chand Agnihotri, former Vice Chancellor of the Central University of Himachal Pradesh; and Gurcharan Singh Gill, Additional Advocate General of Rajasthan. Agnihotri shed light on the illustrious history of the Vanjara (Banjara) community, emphasizing Bhai Saheb’s lineage as upholders of the Kshatriya and sacrificial traditions of Raja Bhoj, where 36 valiant men sacrificed their lives for the nation and religion’s ideological integrity.
Bhai Ranjit Singh, leading the program, encapsulated the theme in his address, describing Bhai Mani Singh’s life as a remarkable blend of “weapons and scriptures,” illustrating that while worldly power can inflict physical harm, it cannot subdue one’s conscience, determination, and righteousness. He highlighted how Bhai Mani Singh’s scriptural purity and sacrifice serve as a profound beacon for Sikhs worldwide, embodying the essence of their cultural heritage. Gurlad Singh, speaking on behalf of the Trust, emphasized the importance of disseminating Bhai Mani Singh’s teachings to a broader audience, underscoring his enduring legacy.
During the event, all dignitaries on the main stage were recognized and honored by the institute with a token of appreciation, receiving a model of ‘Shri Harimandir Sahib’ and a shawl as a gesture of gratitude for their valuable contributions and guidance.
