Govind Parmar, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA representing Umreth constituency in Gujarat’s Anand district, passed away at the age of 82 while undergoing treatment at a hospital. Parmar, known for his grassroots political work in the Charotar region, had been unwell and succumbed to his illness in Anand, where he was receiving medical care. His demise has led to an outpouring of condolences from political leaders and BJP supporters, especially in Anand and Umreth.
Born in 1943, Parmar, who had limited formal education up to Class 7, dedicated his life to public service and politics. Elected to the Gujarat Legislative Assembly in 2017, he secured his seat from Umreth by defeating the Congress candidate. Parmar retained his position in the 2022 elections, winning by a significant margin. His victory in 2017 had ended a history of political volatility in the Umreth constituency.
State BJP President Jagdish Vishwakarma expressed deep sorrow over Parmar’s passing, highlighting the MLA’s popularity and contributions to grassroots politics. Parmar’s close ties with local communities and his commitment to public service were hallmarks of his political career. His demise has left the Umreth Assembly seat vacant, prompting tributes and mourning from party members and residents in the region.
