Actress Bhumi Pednekkar shared her views at the International Film Festival Delhi (IFFD) 2026, highlighting the diminishing space for women-led narratives in mainstream cinema. She emphasized the increasing opportunities for female actors on OTT platforms, where women take the lead in many shows and films. Pednekkar expressed disappointment over the shrinking presence of such narratives in traditional cinema, citing the importance of this shift.

Digital platforms like OTT have provided a platform for women to explore diverse and empowering roles, according to Pednekkar. She commended the courage of actresses in choosing scripts and praised the opportunities offered by these platforms. Pednekkar believes that OTT platforms have enabled women to take on more layered and bold characters, allowing them to showcase their talent and versatility effectively.

Pednekkar, known for her roles in films like “Toilet: Ek Prem Katha” and “Bala,” emphasized the significance of the rise of OTT platforms in providing meaningful opportunities for actresses. She underlined the bravery and strength of women in the industry in selecting challenging roles. Pednekkar concluded that OTT platforms serve as a conducive space for women to showcase their talent and explore diverse characters.
