The Bidhannagar (South) Police Station in West Bengal has issued a notice to Aroop Biswas, the ex-West Bengal Sports Minister, regarding an FIR filed against him last week for vandalism at the Yuva Bharati Krirangan in Salt Lake during Lionel Messi’s event. Biswas, a former Trinamool Congress legislator, was instructed to appear at the police station by June 5.
The FIR, lodged on May 30 based on a complaint by the event’s organizer, Satadru Dutta, has been seen positively by Dutta, who believes it will help identify those responsible for the incident. Dutta had previously faced arrest during the Trinamool Congress rule in connection with the same event but was later released on bail.
Satadru Dutta accused Biswas of involvement in black-marketing around 22,000 tickets for the Messi event, leading to the initiation of an investigation by the Bidhannagar South Police Station. The current Sports Minister, Nishith Pramanik, has also shown interest in addressing the Messi event issues after assuming office.
