Patna, Aug 14 (IANS) Ahead of Independence Day, Muzaffarpur Police launched a major special drive against criminals, absconders and wanted suspects across the district.

Acting on the SSP’s instructions, police teams conducted raids and checking operations in several police station areas and arrested 342 people, of whom 190 were sent to judicial custody.

City SP Mohibullah Ansari shared details of the operation during a press conference at the Police Lines. He said the campaign aimed to strengthen crime control, apprehend wanted individuals, and maintain law and order ahead of Independence Day.

According to police data, the East‑1 subdivision recorded the highest number of arrests, with 72 people apprehended, including 43 sent to judicial custody. A further 40 arrests were made across the Town‑1 and Town‑2 subdivision areas.

As part of the campaign, the SSP conducted surprise inspections of Brahmpura and Sakra police stations.

He reviewed the police stations’ functioning and directed officers and personnel to remain alert and maintain continuous surveillance to prevent criminal activity.

Police officials are now examining the criminal records of those arrested to determine how many are wanted in old cases and how many are linked to newly registered cases.

Police also reported recoveries during the operation in areas including the Ahiyapur police station jurisdiction. Details of the recovered items are expected to be released separately.

City SP Mohibullah Ansari said the campaign against criminals and absconding suspects would continue. Security checks and surveillance have also been intensified across Muzaffarpur as part of the Independence Day security arrangements.

Earlier in the day, Bihar DGP Vinay Kumar adopted a tough stance against the growing threat of cybercrime in the state, warning that strict action will be taken against people who obtain more than the permitted number of SIM cards using a single identity document.

He also said those involved in preparing fake Aadhaar cards would face legal action.

According to him, more than 7,000 FIRs related to cybercrime have been registered in Bihar, while police and other agencies are continuing to take action against cybercriminal networks.
