Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary expressed deep sorrow over a fatal road accident on the Lucknow-Agra Expressway in Unnao that resulted in multiple casualties and numerous injuries. CM Choudhary, in a social media post on platform X, described the incident as extremely distressing and heart-wrenching. He offered condolences to the affected families and paid tribute to the deceased individuals.
The accident occurred early Tuesday near the 262-kilometre mark of the expressway within the Auras Police Station’s jurisdiction. Reports suggest that a double-decker AC bus lost control, collided with the central divider, overturned, and was left hanging precariously over the roadside railing.
Five passengers lost their lives in the crash, with approximately 15 others sustaining injuries, including three police personnel. Among the deceased were identified as Ramchandra Ram, a 59-year-old sub-inspector from Siwan Police Lines, and Chhatarpal Singh Tomar, a 59-year-old resident of Gurugram. The identities of three other deceased passengers are yet to be confirmed.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the driver may have fallen asleep while driving at a high speed, leading to the accident. Eyewitnesses reported that several passengers were ejected from the bus windows during the collision and landed on the expressway. Following the incident, rescue operations were promptly initiated by police, ambulances, and teams from the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority.
The injured passengers were swiftly transported to nearby government hospitals, with critically injured individuals being referred to the Lucknow Trauma Centre for further treatment. Others are currently receiving medical care at the district hospital.
