Amid speculation of a potential split within the Bihar Congress post the 2025 Assembly election results, the party’s top brass convened a crucial meeting in Delhi. Led by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi, the meeting aimed to tackle internal issues within the Bihar party unit. Rahul Gandhi emphasized the need for Bihar Congress leaders to fulfill their duties diligently and focus on grassroots work.
During the meeting, it was stressed that individual efforts alone would not suffice to rejuvenate the party in Bihar. Collective action, discipline, and active involvement from all leaders were deemed essential for strengthening the Congress in the state. Congress MP Tariq Anwar highlighted the importance of not just assigning responsibilities but also ensuring accountability within the organization.
Rajya Sabha MP Ranjeet Ranjan echoed concerns about the fragile state of the party’s organization in Bihar. The meeting also saw discussions on setting up a state committee promptly and leveraging the expertise of senior leaders effectively. The Congress legislative party’s leadership in Bihar was a focal point of the deliberations.
In the aftermath of the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections, where the Congress won only six out of 62 seats it contested, there were concerns about potential defections. However, all six MLAs, who had reportedly distanced themselves from party activities, attended the meeting, expressing their grievances to Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge. While their presence allayed immediate fears of a split, the leadership acknowledged the urgent need for significant organizational reforms to revive the party in Bihar.
