Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary has expressed strong support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s stance on women’s reservation following the defeat of the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill. Chaudhary emphasized the NDA’s commitment to ensuring 33% reservation for women in legislatures and highlighted Bihar’s efforts in women’s empowerment under Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s leadership. He criticized the Opposition for blocking the bill in the Lok Sabha, stating that the PM’s initiative aligns with their party’s support for women’s reservation.
In response to the controversy, Uttar Pradesh Minister Om Prakash Rajbhar emphasized that the legislation aimed at social justice, echoing the PM’s vision for women’s reservation as envisioned by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. Rajbhar criticized Congress, Samajwadi Party, and other parties for delaying the Women’s Reservation Bill for 40 years without approval, hindering equal participation for women.
The government faced setbacks as the Constitution (131st Amendment) Act and the Delimitation Bill, proposing 33% reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and State Assemblies, failed to pass. Prime Minister Modi, in his address to the nation, criticized Opposition parties for obstructing women’s representation, accusing them of undermining women’s empowerment for their political interests.
