Following recent fire incidents at a Delhi hotel and a hospital in Bihar, the Bihar Fire Services Department has initiated a comprehensive safety inspection campaign throughout the state, focusing on hospitals and hotels. Deputy Inspector General Manoj Nat stated that around 70 establishments in Patna, including hospitals and hotels, underwent inspections in the last two days. Five establishments, comprising four hospitals and one hotel like Kunal Hotel and various hospitals, were found to have major violations, leading to sealing procedures.
The inspection teams uncovered significant shortcomings in fire safety and regulatory adherence at the identified establishments, including Advance Patna Central Hospital and Arogyavardhan Hospital. DIG Manoj Nat highlighted deficiencies at Khan Global Studies and warned of potential actions if the issues are not promptly addressed. The department stressed the importance of adhering to fire safety regulations to ensure public safety, urging all commercial entities, hospitals, schools, and hotels to comply.
Authorities reported that the ongoing enforcement drive has prompted some establishments to voluntarily rectify deficiencies to avoid punitive measures. The inspection efforts are set to continue in the upcoming days to enhance fire readiness in Bihar post the recent tragic incidents. These actions follow a deadly fire in a South Delhi hotel that claimed 21 lives and an incident at Prasad Hospital in Muzaffarpur, resulting in seven fatalities and raising concerns about fire safety in healthcare facilities.
