Amid the ongoing security controversy surrounding the Lalu family, Tej Pratap Yadav, the JD(U) chief, visited his mother, former Bihar Chief Minister Rabri Devi, at 10 Circular Road upon learning of her illness. Outside the residence, members of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) were protesting recent security changes for the family. Tej Pratap clarified that his mother did not voluntarily return the security personnel but that they were informed their deployment orders had been revoked.
Tej Pratap emphasized that his visit was primarily to check on Rabri Devi’s health and stated that the family was closely monitoring her condition. He also highlighted the importance of prioritizing women and girls’ safety in Bihar, urging the government to take concrete steps in this regard. The visit occurred amidst a heated political debate following the reported downgrade of the security cover previously provided to Rabri Devi and Lalu Prasad Yadav after a security review.
The RJD has criticized the decision, alleging political bias, while the government maintains that security arrangements are made based on threat assessments and constitutional positions. The controversy has been fueled by the ongoing dispute over the family’s official residence at 10 Circular Road, where opposition leaders and party workers have shown their support. Tej Pratap Yadav’s visit is seen as significant, symbolizing family unity during a time when security and the official residence of the Lalu family are central to Bihar’s political discussions.
