The Bihar government has implemented a significant administrative reshuffle within the state police force, moving 12 IPS officers from Director General (DG) to Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) roles. Additionally, 53 Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) have been reassigned to new duties in various locations like districts, headquarters, and specialized units.
This restructuring initiative by the Home Department aims to enhance the efficiency of police administration and operations across Bihar. Notable appointments include Preeta Verma as Director General of Home Guards and Nirmal Kumar Azad, who now holds the positions of Director General (Training) and Director General (Prohibition).
Furthermore, Pankaj Kumar Darad has transitioned from the Special Vigilance Unit to become the Additional Director General (ADG)-cum-Managing Director of the Police Building Construction Corporation. Sudhanshu Kumar has also taken on additional responsibilities in the Special Vigilance Unit.
In a separate move, the Home Department has transferred 53 DSP-rank officers to various roles such as the Economic Offences Unit, Special Branch, Bihar Police Academy, district police headquarters, training institutions, and Crime investigation units. These transfers involve officers being relocated from field assignments to headquarters, training centers, and investigative or district-level positions.
Districts like Patna, Khagaria, West Champaran, Muzaffarpur, Nalanda, among others, have been impacted by these transfers. Additionally, the Home Department has assigned temporary officiating executive charge of staff officer (Pay Level-13) to eight Additional Superintendents of Police (ASPs) in compliance with the General Administration Department’s notification dated October 13, 2023.
The ASPs granted this temporary role include Shibli Nomani (Araria), Rajkishore Singh (Munger), Mukul Kumar Ranjan (Vaishali), Ashish Anand (Saharsa), Nurul Haq (Siwan), Alok Ranjan (Gaya), Sonu Kumar Rai (Bhojpur), and Upendra Kumar Yadav (Siwan). The Home Department has clarified that these Staff Officer assignments are temporary and the officers will continue their current duties alongside the new responsibilities.
This recent reshuffle is part of the Bihar government’s ongoing efforts to revamp police administration through transfers, promotions, and the allocation of additional duties.
