The Bihar Legislative Assembly’s Budget Session started on Monday with Chief Minister Nitish Kumar engaging in political activities at the Assembly premises. Before the session began, Nitish Kumar met with Assembly Speaker Prem Kumar and Legislative Council Chairman Awadhesh Narayan Singh, presenting bouquets to both. Governor Arif Mohammad Khan was welcomed by the Chief Minister upon his arrival at the Assembly, accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha.
MLAs and ministers from the Nitish Kumar Cabinet, representing both the ruling coalition and the opposition, actively participated on the first day of the session. Despite undergoing toe surgery, Leader of the Opposition Tejashwi Yadav arrived in a wheelchair, a picture of which went viral on social media. Governor Arif Mohammad Khan addressed the House, emphasizing Bihar’s progress in education, health, policing, and infrastructure since Nitish Kumar took office in November 2005.
Governor Khan highlighted the significant improvement in law and order, noting the rise in police stations from 814 to 1,380. He also praised the establishment of medical and engineering colleges in all districts, enhancing access to higher education. The Governor mentioned the positive impact of women’s empowerment initiatives, including job reservations, and emphasized advancements in road and transport connectivity, making travel to Patna more convenient from any part of Bihar.
During the Governor’s speech, an opposition MLA interrupted, questioning the timing of justice for NEET students. The state government is set to present the Economic Survey next, detailing Bihar’s economic performance and paving the way for the state budget announcement. The opening day of the Budget Session witnessed active political engagement, with both ruling and opposition members participating in legislative proceedings.
