Bihar Police swiftly apprehended eight suspects in response to the reported molestation and attempted sexual assault of a married woman in Nalanda district. The incident, which took place in a village under the Noorsarai police station area, came to light after a distressing video of the assault circulated on social media.
Nalanda Superintendent of Police Bharat Soni confirmed the arrests, noting that six additional suspects were detained following the initial two, bringing the total to eight. The assault occurred on March 26 as the victim was returning home from a grocery store when a group of individuals intercepted her, verbally abused her, and attempted to sexually assault her.
The accused allegedly molested the woman, restrained her on the ground, and tried to gang rape her when she resisted and called for help. They also filmed the assault without consent, tore her clothes, and shared the video online to shame her. Preliminary investigations indicate prior harassment of the woman by certain individuals in the village.
Police responded promptly upon the video’s circulation, launching an inquiry and conducting raids that led to the arrests. Among those apprehended are Shailesh Kumar, Dashrath Chaudhary, Ranjan Paswan, Sachin Kumar, Doman Paswan, and Sonu Kumar, in addition to the previously arrested Ashok Yadav and Matlu Mahto alias Navneet Kumar Narottam.
Legal proceedings and further investigations are ongoing, with authorities ensuring strict action against all involved. An FIR has been lodged against the accused at the Noorsarai police station, encompassing charges of molestation, outraging the modesty of a woman, attempted rape, intimidating the victim, and violations under the IT Act.
The victim resides in the village with her in-laws, while her husband is employed in Maharashtra. This incident underscores concerns regarding the misuse of digital platforms to shame victims.
