The Bihar Police released its 2025 annual report card, highlighting a notable decrease in major crimes statewide. Director General of Police (DGP) Vinay Kumar shared that murder cases dropped by 8.3%, robberies by 26.9%, and riot-related incidents by 21.5% compared to the previous year. Notably, bank robbery cases saw an impressive 80% reduction, indicating enhanced surveillance and policing efforts.
During the year, Bihar Police arrested 3,61,364 accused individuals in various criminal cases. A crackdown on illegal arms activities led to the seizure of 4,963 illegal firearms, 30,133 cartridges, and the dismantling of 74 mini gun factories. The Special Task Force (STF) also saw a significant increase in operations, with encounters rising from eight to 29, resulting in the arrest of 1,682 criminals and 134 Naxalites.
STF operations yielded 70 standard weapons, 15,552 live cartridges, and notably weakened criminal and extremist networks. The sustained anti-Naxalite efforts led to a decline in Naxalite activities, with six surrenders recorded, including prominent figures like Ravan Koda and Akhilesh Singh Bhokta. The focus now is on securing convictions, with 1,43,545 criminals convicted between January and November 2025, including death penalties and life imprisonments.
DGP Vinay Kumar credited the improved crime statistics to coordinated policing, intelligence-driven operations, robust STF actions, and effective prosecution. The Bihar Police reaffirmed their commitment to a zero-tolerance stance against crime and extremism.
