Bihar Police conducted two significant anti-narcotics operations in Supaul and Madhubani districts, seizing more than 455 kg of ganja and apprehending five suspected smugglers. The first operation, led by Pipra Police Station in Supaul district, resulted in the recovery of 427.95 kg of cannabis from a pickup vehicle during a special blockade operation. Rajesh Kumar Jha, SHO of Pipra Police Station, mentioned receiving intelligence about a large quantity of narcotics being transported from Madhubani to Bhagalpur.
A special police team, under Sub-Inspector Rajiv Kumar Singh, initiated a thorough checking drive near Singheshwar Road, leading to the interception of a suspicious pickup truck. The driver attempted to escape upon encountering the police blockade but was apprehended. Upon inspection, police found a hidden compartment in the vehicle filled with sacks of cannabis, camouflaged with empty plastic crates. The seized narcotics, weighing 427.95 kg, were estimated to be worth approximately Rs 1.71 crore in the international market.
The arrested individual, Upendra Kumar Yadav, hailing from Kopa village in Patna district, confessed that the consignment was picked up from Bhutaha and destined for Bhagalpur. Authorities have confiscated both the contraband and the pickup truck, filing a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Further investigations are ongoing to apprehend other suspects associated with the smuggling network.
In a separate operation, Narahiya Police Station in Madhubani district seized 28 kg of cannabis from a passenger bus at Bhutaha Chowk on NH-27. Acting on a tip-off about four youths carrying narcotics on a bus from Araria, the police intercepted the Maa Durga Bus and discovered large quantities of cannabis hidden in bags. The arrested individuals, Badri Kumar, Indrajit Kumar, Mukesh Kumar, and Ashish Kumar, have been remanded to judicial custody following the registration of cases under the NDPS Act.
