The Bihar Legislative Assembly’s Monsoon Session saw discussions revolving around the deteriorating school infrastructure in Bihar, as highlighted by the Opposition. Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary responded to the criticism by assuring a review of the situation and resolving pending land-related issues for schools within six months.
RJD MLA Kumar Sarvjeet expressed alarm over the condition of nearly 40% of government school buildings in Bihar, many of which are either dilapidated or collapsed. He emphasized the need for a comprehensive survey by the Education Department to address these issues and improve educational facilities across the state.
Sarvjeet also raised concerns about the quality of education, citing instances where students in Classes 3 to 6 struggle with basic English literacy. He stressed the importance of reconstructing damaged schools and enhancing educational infrastructure to ensure quality education for all students, especially those from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
Chief Minister Choudhary acknowledged the challenges and highlighted ongoing efforts to expand schools, initiated by former Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. He explained that due to land unavailability for some schools, classes were started in available spaces to prevent educational disruptions. Choudhary committed to resolving land-related issues within six months to facilitate the construction and improvement of school facilities.
