The Special Vigilance Unit (SVU) of Bihar recently apprehended Anita Kumari, a District Program Officer in Thakurganj block of Kishanganj, for accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000. Anita Kumari was caught red-handed during the operation after allegedly demanding the bribe under the threat of disciplinary action. The arrest followed a complaint by Nagendra Kumar, who reported the bribery attempt to the SVU office in Patna.
The complainant accused Anita Kumari of demanding a bribe of Rs 10 lakh to avoid suspension, which was later negotiated down to Rs 50,000. The SVU team intervened during the exchange, leading to Anita Kumari’s arrest. The case has been registered under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, and the officer will appear before the Vigilance Court in Patna for further legal proceedings.
In a series of actions against corruption, the SVU previously arrested Junior Engineer Aman Kumar and District Agriculture Officer Himanshu Kumar for bribery. Aman Kumar was caught accepting Rs 9,000 as part of the bribe, while Himanshu Kumar and his driver were apprehended for taking Rs 50,000 in bribes. The SVU continues its efforts to combat corruption in the state.
