The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has urged the Bharatiya Janata Party to reveal the data on water availability in Odisha’s Mahanadi basin, which was reportedly presented before the Mahanadi Water Disputes Tribunal. This call comes after questions were raised by the “Mahanadi Banchao Andolan,” a citizens’ group dedicated to safeguarding the Mahanadi river basin, regarding the data submitted to the Tribunal.
According to BJD Spokesperson Lenin Mohanty, Odisha and Chhattisgarh have submitted data on water resources in the Mahanadi following the Tribunal’s directives. The Mahanadi Banchao Andolan has sought a discussion with Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi over the data, but alleged that their requests were unanswered.
The BJD emphasized the need for transparency, stating that the data concerning Mahanadi water resources from both states should be made public. Mohanty criticized the government for detaining activists who wanted to discuss the issue with the Chief Minister, suggesting an attempt to conceal information related to the Mahanadi.
