The Tamil Nadu BJP has accused the ruling DMK of accumulating around Rs 2,000 crore to sway voters before the 2026 Assembly elections. BJP spokesperson A.N.S. Prasad alleged large-scale electoral malpractice by the DMK and called for immediate action by the Election Commission of India. The BJP highlighted cash distribution networks operating at the booth level, particularly in Thiruvidanthai near Mamallapuram.

The BJP claimed that significant amounts of money were stashed in various constituencies, including Kolathur, represented by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin. According to Prasad, these actions violate electoral laws and provisions against bribery and corrupt practices. The BJP demanded forensic audits and legal actions against those implicated in the alleged voter inducement schemes.

Prasad urged the Election Commission’s team in Chennai to use its constitutional powers to ensure fair elections and address the deteriorating electoral environment in Tamil Nadu. The BJP also called on the Chief Electoral Officer to brief the Commission on the situation, emphasizing the need for vigilance given past instances of cash seizures during elections. The party framed the issue as a clash between the NDA’s development-focused governance and the DMK’s corruption-centric rule.
