The Bharatiya Janata Party has accused West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of misleading the public by suggesting that the Election Commission of India (ECI) was pressured by the Trinamool Congress to accept Madhyamik Examination admit cards as valid identity documents. The BJP’s Information Technology Cell Chief, Amit Malviya, clarified that the ECI’s circular specified that the admit card could only be used in conjunction with the pass certificate, not on its own. Malviya emphasized that the admit card alone is insufficient for identification purposes.

Malviya pointed out that the ECI’s directive clearly stated that the Madhyamik admit card, when presented, must be accompanied by the pass certificate to be considered a valid identification document. This requirement ensures that only genuine documents are accepted, preventing the use of fake or altered admit cards. The BJP’s statement highlighted that Banerjee’s supporters relying on forged admit cards to enter the voter list would face obstacles due to this stringent verification process.
