English actor Tom Holland made a significant choice to star in Christopher Nolan’s upcoming project ‘The Odyssey.’ He disclosed having a tough conversation with Sony Pictures chief Tom Rothman to postpone ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ for Nolan’s film. Initially, both movies had coinciding production start dates when Nolan offered Holland the role of Telemachus, Odysseus’ son.
Holland mentioned to GQ magazine that he had to inform Nolan about the dilemma and negotiate with Sony for the schedule change. Sony agreed to move the ‘Spider-Man’ movie to accommodate Holland’s commitment to Nolan. He highlighted Nolan’s reputation for timely productions as a key factor in Sony’s decision.
According to reports, ‘The Odyssey’ adhered to its schedule and even wrapped up nine days ahead of time. Holland expressed that under a different director, the situation might have unfolded differently. He also noted the positive outcome of the delay, mentioning how it allowed the recruitment of Destin Daniel Cretton as the director for ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day.’
The actor emphasized the beneficial impact of the scheduling adjustment on the Marvel movie’s development. He credited the delay for enabling the collaboration with Cretton, leading to what he believes is the best version of a ‘Spider-Man’ film to date. Holland reflected on Sony’s perspective, suggesting that despite initial challenges, they now appreciate the outcome.
