BJP and its allies have supported the recent increases in petrol and diesel prices, emphasizing that despite the global energy turmoil due to tensions in West Asia, fuel rates in India are lower compared to many other nations. State-run oil marketing companies adjusted fuel prices for the second time in less than a week following a surge in international crude oil prices related to the ongoing Gulf conflict and concerns over disruptions in global oil supply routes.
The latest revision saw petrol prices rise by 86 paise per liter and diesel by 83 paise per liter. BJP leaders highlighted that while the global crisis has affected economies worldwide, India has managed the situation relatively well. They urged citizens to conserve fuel, echoing earlier appeals by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Senior BJP figure Shahnawaz Hussain attributed the fuel price hikes to the deteriorating global scenario and disruptions in energy supply routes. He noted the global shortage of oil and gas, emphasizing that India is imposing the least burden on the public compared to other countries amidst the crisis.
Uttar Pradesh Minister Sanjay Nishad of the Nishad Party remarked that India remains stable compared to other nations despite the West Asia crisis. Nishad credited PM Modi for India’s resilience, acknowledging that fuel prices would naturally rise during Gulf conflicts. He stressed the importance of fuel conservation as a current necessity.
