Counting for Haryana’s seven urban local bodies and 528 panchayats commenced with a voter turnout of 54.5%. The main contenders, BJP and Congress, are vying for victory in the elections.
The municipal corporations include Ambala, Panchkula, and Sonipat, along with elections for the Rewari municipal council and municipal committees in Sampla, Dharuhera, and Uklana. By-elections for one ward each were also conducted in Tohana, Jhajjar, Rajound, Taraori, Kanina, and Sadhaura.
BJP candidates Akshita Saini, Shyamlal Bansal, and Rajiv Jain are contesting mayoral races in Ambala, Panchkula, and Sonipat, respectively. Meanwhile, the Congress has fielded Kulwinder Kaur, Sudha Bhardwaj, and Kamal Diwan. The total votes cast were 475,948 out of 8,73,177 voters, with a focus on ensuring transparency in the counting process.
Special police security has been deployed at the counting centers, and strict monitoring of anti-social elements has been ordered. The Election Commission reported high turnouts in Sampla, Uklana, and Dharuhera municipal committees, with Sampla recording the highest at 79.2%.
