A day after Tipra Motha Party (TMP) leader Pradyot Bikram Manikya Debbarma stated that his party would not form any alliances for the upcoming Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections, the BJP unveiled its candidate list. The TTAADC, a crucial 30-member council election, is set for April 12, with vote counting on April 17. The BJP, led by Tripura BJP President Rajib Bhattacharjee, will contest all 28 seats in the council.
The TTAADC, considered the state’s second most significant constitutional body after the Tripura Assembly, consists of 28 elected members and two appointed by the state government. The BJP, currently holding nine seats in the council, renominated seven members for the polls. Key tribal leaders from the party, including state General Secretary Bipin Debbarma, will also participate in the elections. If successful, the BJP aims to ensure transparent governance for the tribal population, constituting nearly one-third of Tripura’s total population of around 4.2 million.
Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha, Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy, and other BJP leaders attended the candidate announcement. Notably, two prominent TMP leaders, Ananta Debbarma and Swadagar Kalai, joined the BJP and are contesting in the elections. Meanwhile, TMP founder Pradyot Bikram Manikya Debbarma firmly rejected any alliance with the BJP for the TTAADC elections, emphasizing the need for progress on a previous accord.
