The BJP criticized the Congress in Karnataka following MLA H.C. Balakrishna’s comments defending the Bidadi Township Project. Balakrishna allegedly made a remark linking Union Minister Shobha Karandlaje to the project, which the BJP found disrespectful. The controversial project has faced opposition over land acquisition and environmental concerns.
Balakrishna’s statement, suggesting the project was initiated by Karandlaje’s “Yajman,” stirred controversy as she is unmarried. This indirect reference to former Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa drew condemnation from the BJP. The party accused the Congress of making inappropriate remarks against a woman in public life.
In response to the situation, BJP National Spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla criticized the Congress and the Karnataka government. Poonawalla labeled the comments as misogynistic and condemned the Congress for its attitude towards women in politics. He also questioned the silence of senior Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.
