The BJP strongly criticized the recent vandalism at the Farakka BDO’s office in Murshidabad district, West Bengal. The party demanded the deployment of central forces to ensure the completion of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise in the state. The condemnation followed an incident where a mob, reportedly led by Trinamool Congress MLA Monirul Islam, rampaged the BDO’s office, protesting against alleged harassment during the SIR process.
The BJP’s IT Cell chief, Amit Malviya, expressed grave concern over the violent attack on the BDO’s office and other officials in Farakka AC. Malviya highlighted the alleged involvement of Trinamool leaders in orchestrating the violence. He emphasized the need for the Election Commission to intervene and hold those responsible accountable for the breakdown of law and order. The BJP leader urged swift action to prevent such incidents from undermining the electoral process.
In response to the incident, two individuals were arrested after the mob vandalized the BDO’s office and disrupted the SIR hearing of the voter list. The BDO lodged a complaint, leading to the registration of an FIR under relevant sections of the law. Following the vandalism, 55 micro observers raised concerns about security lapses and withdrew from their SIR duties. The Leader of the Opposition in the state Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, strongly condemned the attack on micro observers and called for the deployment of central forces to ensure the integrity of the SIR process.
