The Karnataka unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party has criticized Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s approach to internal reservation, calling it an “escape formula” that will not benefit any community. Leader of the Opposition R. Ashoka expressed disappointment, stating that the allocation of internal reservation by the Chief Minister was inadequate.
Ashoka highlighted that the Congress government’s decision comes at a time when there are demands for government jobs and internal reservation from the youth and Scheduled Caste communities. He compared the current 15% reservation to the previous 17% provided by the BJP when in power, alleging that the reduction without legal challenge has led to injustice for all communities.
The BJP leader further criticized the lack of consultations with 52 caste groups and other communities before finalizing the internal reservation ratios. He emphasized the ongoing struggle for fair representation and justice, urging for inclusive decision-making involving community leaders and religious heads.
The state Cabinet recently approved a historic decision on internal reservation, setting ratios of 5.25:5.25:4.5 for left, right, and other communities respectively. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced the specific percentages allocated for each category and assured the filling of over 56,000 posts this year, with recruitment processes to commence soon.
