The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has accused Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, of maligning India’s reputation while overseas. BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla labeled Gandhi as the “Leader of Propaganda” for spreading what they claim are falsehoods about India during his foreign visits. Poonawalla criticized Gandhi for consistently casting doubts on India’s democracy and tarnishing the nation’s image on the global stage.
Addressing a press conference at the party headquarters, Poonawalla highlighted Gandhi’s recent remarks made at Hertie School in Berlin where he reiterated allegations of electoral malpractice in India. Poonawalla also took a dig at the reported internal differences within the Gandhi family regarding prime ministerial aspirations, suggesting a lack of support for the Leader of Opposition from Congress allies.
The ongoing debate surrounding the Congress party’s potential Prime Ministerial candidate escalated as Congress MP Imran Masood advocated for Priyanka Gandhi’s candidacy. Adding to the speculation, Robert Vadra, Priyanka Gandhi’s husband, hinted at a possible entry into politics amid growing demands for both Priyanka and himself to take on active roles within the party. Vadra emphasized the need to prioritize addressing the genuine concerns of the people over political ambitions.
In response to Rahul Gandhi’s comments predicting internal strife and failure under the current leadership, Poonawalla accused the Congress and its allies of engaging in divisive tactics along religious, linguistic, and demographic lines. He cited instances where certain political figures associated with the Congress allegedly made inflammatory statements aimed at creating divisions within the country, attributing a “divide and rule” strategy to the opposition party.
