As the deadline for filing nominations for the Legislative Council (MLC) elections closed, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) launched a scathing attack on Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray. The BJP accused Thackeray of prioritizing his own image over political risks by nominating Ambadas Danve instead of contesting himself.
The upcoming MLC elections are likely to proceed unopposed as the Mahayuti alliance, including BJP, Shiv Sena led by Eknath Shinde, and Nationalist Congress Party factions, opted not to introduce more candidates. While BJP submitted five nominations and Shiv Sena two, internal discord within the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) was evident during the nomination process, which the BJP criticized as chaotic.
State Spokesperson Navnath Ban ridiculed the decision-making process of the MVA, labeling it a “comedy circus.” Ban expressed public satisfaction over the alliance’s inefficiency and questioned their ability to govern the state if they struggle to select a single candidate for the Legislative Council. He alleged that Thackeray used Danve as a shield to protect himself from potential defeat.
