The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has strongly criticized former Tamil Nadu Deputy CM Udhayanidhi Stalin for his anti-Sanatan remarks in the Assembly. BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla condemned Stalin’s calls to “abolish” Sanatan, stating that those against Sanatan suffered a defeat in recent elections but have not learned from it. Udhayanidhi Stalin, as the Leader of Opposition in the Tamil Nadu Assembly, stirred controversy by advocating for the eradication of Sanatan in the presence of Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay.
Stalin’s statement, “Sanathanam that divides people should be eradicated,” was widely shared on social media, prompting backlash from BJP leaders at both state and central levels. Shehzad Poonawalla accused Stalin of spreading hatred against Sanatan despite the DMK’s electoral setbacks, warning of potential repercussions from the people of Tamil Nadu and the nation. The BJP spokesperson criticized the DMK and its leaders for their consistent attacks on Sanatan, labeling it as their primary political strategy.
CR Kesavan, another BJP spokesperson, likened Udhayanidhi Stalin to Rahul Gandhi, dubbing him the “Gandhi of Tamil Nadu.” Kesavan drew parallels between Stalin’s actions and those of Rahul Gandhi, highlighting their alleged disrespect towards sacred traditions and ceremonies. He criticized the DMK for its divisive stance, citing instances where the party opposed cultural practices and failed to acknowledge important festivals.
Udhayanidhi Stalin had previously made similar controversial statements against Sanatan Dharma, likening it to diseases and advocating for its complete elimination. These remarks had sparked a political uproar, with several BJP leaders launching scathing attacks on him for his comments.
