The BJP has strongly supported the Union Budget 2026-27, countering Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge’s critique of the government’s economic vision. BJP spokesperson Pratul Shah Deo emphasized Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s development plan, highlighting improved fiscal discipline with a fiscal deficit of around 4.3 percent. Shah Deo criticized the Congress for disregarding global economic challenges and praised India’s economic resilience amid a worldwide slowdown.
Responding to Kharge’s accusations of a lack of policy direction in the budget, Shah Deo pointed out the global economic slowdown affecting major economies. He noted that India stands out as a strong performer amidst weak global growth projections, addressing various economic sectors in the budget. Congress President Kharge had earlier criticized the budget for not addressing key socio-economic issues like jobs, manufacturing, and social security, accusing the government of lacking solutions and avoiding structural reforms.
Shah Deo rejected these claims, asserting that the Congress was presenting a negative narrative despite India’s improving economic fundamentals. He defended the budget’s focus on national security, citing the need to strengthen defense capabilities in the face of longstanding border tensions. The BJP spokesperson highlighted the budget’s balance between fiscal responsibility, growth initiatives, and national security measures, accusing the Congress of misleading the public for political gain amid escalating debates over the budget.
