A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) delegation, led by Leader of the Opposition R. Ashoka, visited villages affected by the proposed Bidadi Township project. They declared their opposition to the project and vowed to prevent its implementation. Ashoka accused the State government of trying to forcibly acquire agricultural land and threatened intensified protests if action was taken against farmers.
The BJP leader criticized the government for alleged violations during recent visits to the project area. He highlighted instances where legal procedures were not followed, leading to cases being registered against farmers without prior notice. Ashoka claimed that farmers, who were protesting to protect their livelihoods, were being unfairly targeted and portrayed as criminals.
Ashoka raised concerns about the government’s plans to acquire around 20,000 acres near Bengaluru for development projects. He questioned the conversion of grazing land into layouts and accused the government of prioritizing profit over farmers’ interests. The BJP leader called for immediate withdrawal of cases against farmers and emphasized the need to focus on their concerns.
Announcing upcoming protests, Ashoka revealed plans for a “Gram Vasthavya” program where BJP leaders would stay in affected villages to highlight farmers’ issues. Additionally, BJP MLAs, former legislators, and party workers are set to stage a protest at Freedom Park in Bengaluru against the proposed township project and the government’s handling of the situation.
