The Bharatiya Janata Party’s Central Election Committee has concluded the selection of candidates for the upcoming Assembly by-elections in Goa, Nagaland, Karnataka, and Tripura. The meeting, led by senior leader Nitin Naveen, took place at the party headquarters in New Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with other key members, participated in the decision-making process.
After thorough discussions, the committee approved five candidates for the four states where the by-elections are set to occur later this year. In Goa, Ritesh Ravi Naik has been nominated for the 21-Ponda constituency to strengthen the party’s position in the coastal region. Meanwhile, in Nagaland, Daochier I. Imchen has been selected for the 28-Koridang (ST) seat to enhance the party’s engagement with Scheduled Tribe voters.
Karnataka will witness two contests with Veerabhadrayya Charantimath contesting from 24-Bagalkot and Srinivas T. Dasakariyappa from 107-Davanagere South. Both candidates, known for their regional expertise, are expected to help maintain the BJP’s influence in northern Karnataka. In Tripura, Jahar Chakraborti will be the BJP’s representative from the 56-Dharmanagar constituency, reflecting the party’s sustained focus on the state.
The selections were made after extensive consultations to ensure the nomination of viable and trustworthy candidates crucial for the party’s interests in these states. The by-elections hold significance for the BJP in all four states, offering opportunities for the party to expand its presence and assess its organizational strength.
Party sources revealed that the Central Election Committee meticulously evaluated ground reports, state unit feedback, and organizational capabilities before finalizing the candidates. Candidates have been instructed to commence campaigning promptly, emphasizing local issues such as development, infrastructure, and welfare schemes. The BJP’s proactive approach in candidate selection is aimed at countering opposition strategies effectively.
Leaders from various states have expressed support for the chosen candidates, pledging to work towards securing victories in the upcoming by-elections. This strategic move by the BJP coincides with its preparations for multiple state elections, indicating a focused effort to gauge organizational readiness and public support under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi.
