The West Bengal unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has started distributing an open letter from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, written in Bengali and Hindi, to voters as part of their campaign for the upcoming Assembly elections. In the letter, the Prime Minister accuses the Mamata Banerjee-led government and the ruling Trinamool Congress of hindering people from benefiting from central schemes. Despite challenges from the state administration, he highlights that many residents have still availed themselves of these programs.
The Prime Minister emphasizes the critical role voters will play in deciding the future of West Bengal in the upcoming elections. He expresses concern over the state’s economic condition and promises to work towards rebuilding a developed and prosperous West Bengal. Modi also outlines various welfare and development schemes introduced since 2014 by the National Democratic Alliance government, underscoring their positive impact on different sectors in the state despite alleged non-cooperation from the state government.
In his letter, PM Modi reflects on West Bengal’s historical significance in India’s economy and laments its current economic struggles. He criticizes what he perceives as misrule and appeasement politics that have hindered the state’s progress. Modi also addresses issues such as lack of employment opportunities for educated youth, concerns over women’s safety, and the state’s economic decline. He calls for unity to bring about development and prosperity in West Bengal, drawing inspiration from the state’s iconic figures like Swami Vivekananda, Sri Aurobindo, Rabindranath Tagore, and Subhas Chandra Bose.
