The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has stepped up its opposition to the Punjab government’s land pooling policy, labeling it as a scheme to seize farmers’ land rather than a development initiative. State BJP President Kewal Singh Dhillon visited affected farmers in Patton village, expressing solidarity with them against what he criticized as government overreach. The farmers raised concerns about the state’s attempts to acquire their land forcibly, highlighting unresolved compensation issues from previous acquisitions by development authorities.
The aggrieved farmers shared their disillusionment with the ruling AAP government, citing unfulfilled promises of electricity motor connections made during earlier land acquisitions. They appreciated Dhillon’s visit and support during their challenging situation. Dhillon, in a scathing attack, accused Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and the AAP leadership of targeting valuable agricultural land in Mohali and Punjab post their defeat in Delhi. He alleged a potential multi-crore scam orchestrated through the land policy reintroduction, emphasizing the BJP’s staunch opposition to any injustice towards Punjab farmers.
