BJP’s Kerala President, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, criticized the LDF government for economic mismanagement and failure to utilize borrowed funds effectively. Chandrasekhar highlighted the need for a development model similar to that of the NDA government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He emphasized the importance of investing borrowed funds in productive infrastructure for real development.
Speaking at a press meet, Chandrasekhar pointed out the lack of transparency in Kerala’s fund utilization, contrasting it with the BJP-led NDA states where loans are strategically invested. He expressed concerns over Kerala’s economic governance, stating that despite some positive decisions, the overall strategy had failed to revive the economy. Chandrasekhar called for a revamp of the investment promotion strategy in Kerala, suggesting a model akin to the Central government’s approach.
The BJP leader highlighted a significant increase in Central funding to Kerala but raised alarm over the state’s mounting debt, which has reached Rs 4,88,910 crore. He noted that a substantial portion of the state’s expenditure is allocated to loan repayment and salaries, limiting resources for development initiatives. Chandrasekhar attributed Kerala’s economic challenges, including high unemployment and inflation, to the government’s failure to prioritize development spending.
Chandrasekhar criticized the alleged understanding between the CPI(M) and the Congress, accusing them of shifting blame to the Centre for the state’s shortcomings. He specifically criticized the state budget for neglecting key issues such as housing schemes, health insurance for the poor, water scarcity, and support prices for rubber farmers. Additionally, he raised concerns about institutional decay in KSRTC, irregularities in MGNREGA funds, and the state’s handling of school safety issues.
