Veteran BJP leader and Karnataka’s Leader of the Opposition, R. Ashoka, criticized the Congress-led state government for allowing limited traditional and faith-based symbols, including hijab, in schools. Ashoka accused the government of using the hijab issue for “desperate appeasement” after recent political setbacks. He labeled the move as “damage control” to retain minority voter support.
Ashoka condemned the government for prioritizing religious matters over pressing issues like inflation and law enforcement. He also accused the government of disregarding a previous court ruling upholding a uniform dress code in educational institutions. The BJP leader criticized the government’s alleged bias in allowing hijabs while restricting saffron shawls in schools.
Ashoka warned against the government’s “minority appeasement” policies, drawing parallels to West Bengal’s previous administration. He cautioned that such actions could harm social cohesion and accused the government of playing divisive politics. The BJP leader emphasized that voters would reject such “divisive appeasement politics” and urged the government to focus on governance rather than religious issues.
