Member of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) drafting committee in West Bengal, Tathagata Roy, highlighted the significance of the proposed law, likening it to the Constitution itself. Roy pointed out that Article 44 of the Constitution mandates the implementation of the UCC, making it a crucial aspect of governance.

Expressing gratitude for his appointment to the UCC drafting committee, Roy mentioned that the Chief Minister included him without his request. He criticized the previous Trinamool Congress government for allegedly prioritizing political power over governance, accusing them of exploiting resources for personal gain.

Roy accused the former government of focusing on securing Muslim votes to maintain power, alleging preferential treatment in various aspects. He commended the current government’s commitment to the rule of law and non-discriminatory practices, citing recent actions taken in response to criminal activities.
